Sports and Academic Belt Loops and Pins

The Sports and Academic Belt Loops and Pins are a separate program from the Rank Badges (such as the Tiger Cub badge or the Wolf badge).

Where Do I Find The Requirements?

The belt loops and pins are in a separate book (which is $15) but the requirements and their details are all in ScoutTrack (under “Sports and Academics Pins”).

How Does My Scout Earn Belt Loops and Pins?

The Scout completes 3 things to earn the Belt Loop in a subject. He can then do 5 additional things (out of about 10 to 12 choices) to earn the Pin.

Some dens will earn Belt Loops together, and some rank requirements (especially for Webelos) require the Scout to earn a particular Belt Loop. They can also earn them at Pack events, Twilight Camp, Cub Adventure, Family Camp, and some other events.

How Does My Scout Receive Belt Loops or Pins?

Parents enter the achievements in Scout Track, and your Scout should get them at the next Pack Meeting after the achievements are entered into Scout Track as long as they are entered before the month’s awards deadline. You’ll get an email about the deadline from the pack Advancement Coordinator. Occasionally, the Scout Shop is out of stock on certain belt loops or pins, so there may be a delay in handing them out to Scouts.

How Are Belt Loops and Pins Displayed?

Belt Loops go on their Cub Scout uniform belt. BSA makes a new belt loop display holder for belt loops, if you run out of room on the belt. Pins do not go on the uniform. There is a blue and gold “C” letter you can get at the Scout Shop to put on a patch vest or blanket that you can put the pins on.
