Where: Camp Orr, near Jasper, Arkansas (just under 2 hours from Fayetteville)

Cost: $55 for 1 Scout plus 1 Parent. Additional Cost for additional people (see registration form below).

Westark Area Council Family Camp at Camp Orr is coming up in about 2 months. Each Cub Scout must be accompanied by at least one parent, but the whole family is welcome. We’ll camp together as a Pack, but food is provided as part of the camp registration fee, as is one youth t-shirt (additional shirts available for additional fee). No mess kits needed for this campout.

You register as a family through the Council, NOT through the Pack. See the Registration Form (PDF) for more information. Deadline to register (without a late fee) is March 16th!

Here’s a link to lots of great information about Family Camp.

Where: Lake Wilson, Fayetteville (see map below)

When: Saturday, February 18 at 2 p.m.

POSTPONED: The pack hike originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11 has been postponed to next Saturday, Feb. 18 due to the extremely cold forecast for the 11th (windchills around ZERO!). Pack 46 has a policy that all outdoor activities should take place in as optimal conditions as possible to enhance the awesomeness. Hiking/camping in the rain is the sort of character-building fun to be experienced later in Boy Scouts.

We’ll hike the Joe Clark Trail at Lake Wilson, just south of Fayetteville. It’s a great winter hike with excellent views of the lake.

This hike is fairly easy and about 2 miles in total length, though another loop could add another half mile and you could hike the whole thing twice for 4 miles. Remember to bring water and a snack, and remember to dress appropriately for the weather, however unseasonably warm that turns out to be.

Rain/snow date will be the following Saturday, Feb. 18.

IMPORTANT: There is currently construction on the normal way to get to Lake Wilson, so we’ll have to go down Hwy 71 around the airport and approach from the west:

When: Saturday, January 28 at 9am

Where: Grace Church, 2828 Crossover Road, Fayetteville

Pack 46′s Pinewood Derby is Saturday, January 28 at 9am. Here are the important dates and things to remember when working on your car:

Pinewood Derby Test and Tune Night

6pm to 9pm, Friday, January 27, Grace Church.

We’ll have the track set up, and you can run your car and adjust wheels, weight, etc. before checking it in that night.

We would like as many people as possible to come Friday night and check in their cars so we can get started racing as fast as possible on Saturday.

If you don’t check your car in Friday night, please arrive by 8:30am Saturday morning to get checked in before we start racing at 9am. The computer software won’t let us check in any more racers after we begin racing!

Volunteers

If you would like to volunteer to help set up the track on Thursday, January 26 or help during the signup and racing on Saturday, please contact Justin Baugh, our PWD Crew Chief.

Pack 46 Pinewood Derby Building Rules

Here are the rules we follow in building cars:

Each car is inspected at weigh-in for the following inspection points:

Pinewood Derby Car Dimensions

The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.

The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 3/4 inches.

The car must have 1 3/4” clearance between the wheels.

The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body so it does not rub on the track.

Derby Car Weight

The car weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces.

The official race scale that is used at car check-in shall be considered final.

Wood, Wheels and Axles

The official pine wood block must be used. The block may be shaped in any way that is desired.

Official BSA wheels must be used. The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seams and imperfections from the wheels.

The axles may be altered, polished and lubricated.

Car Modifications Not Allowed

Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited

Where: Grace Church Parking lot

We’ll be putting out bags for Scouting For Food, to help collect food for a food pantry (we haven’t decided which one yet) during the time of year when food pantries need food the most — AFTER the holidays.

We’ll meet at the Grace Church parking lot, divide into teams with maps and bags and put out the bags for collection. The Boy Scouts of Troop 46 will collect the full bags the following Saturday and deliver it to a food bank for both units.

Youth Protection Training covers how scout leaders and parents deal with children for the protection of all involved. Our goal at Pack 46 is to get EVERY parent to take the Youth Protection training so that you all know how we deal with your children and why we do it that way.

Once you take Youth Protection, you can apply to be an Adult Volunteer and do other training, many of which are available online.
